“Galo is first and foremost marvelously creative. He is also meticulous – no detail is overlooked. He delivers what he commits to.”

We are most often commissioned to design both the Architectural and Interior Design phases of a project. Ideally, these should be contemplated, designed and executed in a seamless, integrated manner – to optimize a blend of aesthetic and technical considerations, and to minimize construction time, cost and redundancy.

Every client enjoys a customized experience.

From inception, our mission has been to focus on the quality of our projects and client base, rather than the quantity. Galo Verdesoto, the principal, is intimately involved in all critical aspects of every project. Being a boutique firm allows us to provide a bespoke approach to every client. This level of distinctly personalized service, and attention to detail, simply cannot be provided by larger firms.

A business grown through referrals.

We aim to nurture and maintain a long-term relationship with our clients over several projects and years, and as a result of our strong professional work ethic, passion, positive client relations and commitment to excellence, we have earned a loyal and enthusiastic referral base and are held in high esteem by the industry.

“Galo is that rare combination of highly creative yet very professional and technical. He never seems to run out of original ideas.”

Approach:

Everyone has a comfort zone. What if we explored its boundaries?

Diverse sources of inspiration.

As a New Yorker, I view design from a multicultural, multi-sensory perspective – where contrast, juxtaposition, asymmetry and tension are elements that can elevate and enrich. Informed by NYC’s swirling eclecticism, its grit, funk and sophistication, I enjoy mixing it up – and working with like-minded clients. To do so, I take inspiration from many different design styles, periods, movements and cultures:

  • Early and mid-20th-century modern architecture and interior design
  • Japanese architecture, interiors and aesthetics
  • Scandinavian interior and furniture design
  • The expansive urban lofts of New York City
  • The order, grandeur and hierarchy of space found in classical architecture and design

A reverence for light, space, and nature.

We design open, airy, and elegant spaces where light is an important element, and where rooms and spaces move and breathe into one another (the open-plan concept). We value the honest expression and purity of natural materials and strong attention to detail. And we believe that the hallmark of good design is that it stands the test of time.

Open and honest collaboration.

More than anything, our practice strives to provide clients with homes, spaces and environments that reflect their individuality and self-expression. We aspire to cocreate fresh spaces that stimulate their day-to-day existence, and ultimately enrich their lives.

“As a New Yorker, I view design from a multicultural, multi-sensory perspective – where contrast, juxtaposition, asymmetry and tension are elements that can elevate and enrich. Informed by NYC’s swirling eclecticism, its grit, funk and sophistication, I enjoy mixing it up.” (Galo).

About us:

Galo Verdesoto

Galo Verdesoto was raised and resides in New York City. He started his arts education early in life, majoring in architecture at the High School of Art and Design, and continuing at the prestigious Parsons School of Design, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in architectural and environmental design. He continued his formal advanced architecture education while attending Pratt Institute, as well as the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), and he is an AIA (American Institute of Architects) Associate member.
Upon graduation from Parsons, Galo was recruited by faculty member Tim Gunn (now of Project Runway fame) to teach a summer semester abroad at their satellite school in the Dominican Republic: the prestigious Altos De Chavon School of Design. There, drawing on his bilingual ability as he was born in Quito, Ecuador, Galo co-taught freshman year interior design students in Spanish.
Galo's residential architectural and interior design experience spans more than 20 years and countless satisfied clients. He also has extensive experience in commercial, corporate and retail design, including the recent corporate renovation / interior design of a raw Soho loft for INVNT, a global brand and communications agency. Other noted corporate projects include the state of the art, interactive traveling exhibition sponsored by M&M Mars for the promotion of the U.S. Olympics; and projects for NYNEX/New York Telephone (now Verizon) and Credit Suisse/First Boston (now Credit Suisse Group). In the retail realm, he’s worked with Bloomingdale's – doing store design, industrial/product design and promotional design; and at Polo Ralph Lauren's home division – doing furniture design, and product design and development.

“I’ve worked with Galo on multiple projects. What is really amazing is that you would never guess that the same architect and interior designer worked on all four. Each was unique to the space and completely different. He never seems to run out of original ideas.”

“Working with Galo was a fantastic experience for my husband and I. We purchased our apartment (a classic six pre-war) while living in Hong Kong, so we had to manage our gut-renovation from abroad, which was a daunting prospect. However, we were totally comfortable not being in New York while the bulk of the work took place because we came to know that Galo takes such pride in his work, views each project as his baby, and that the result - regardless of our presence - would be nothing short of perfect. Galo's meticulous nature and eye for perfection allowed us to complete a gut-renovation from halfway around the world in six months. Galo respected both our vision and our budget. He somehow managed to transform a stale, old pre-war apartment into a contemporary, open (loft-like in spirit) showpiece, while still preserving its prewar character and detailing. The outcome was magnificent and it really exceeded our expectations. I cannot recommend Galo highly enough! ”

Amanda Pratt

“Galo focuses on the last inch - what you see and touch and live with every day. The result is a balanced home that feels luxurious but is always livable – a place that has its own unique sense of self without sacrificing comfort or warmth.”

Works:

Hamptons

Our work in the Hamptons arose organically, by request, as existing clients sought architectural consulting, renovation and interior design/decoration services for their summer dwellings. Galo Verdesoto has also spent many of his summers out east.

In turn, we’ve come to know the nuances and temperament of the Hamptons real estate markets, embraced its beach and nature-centered lifestyles, and appreciate the distinct charms and characters of its diverse towns and hamlets. Along the way, we’ve uncovered sources for one-of-a-kind, premium products and services. We now serve our clients in the east end, where the design inspirations can draw on a casual, beach seaside ambiance, the cosmopolitan edge of New York City — or an artful blend of the two.

Works:

Corporate / Contract

We design corporate interiors for clients seeking non-traditional work environments with a creative approach and aesthetic.  As society now has a deeper understanding of the impact the quality of a work environment can have on the emotional well-being and performance of employees (positive or negative), many employers are seeking to provide a healthier, more creative, less formal and ultimately inspiring place of business.  Often, this translates into a more balanced and egalitarian design approach that creates less hierarchy, greater collaboration and more flexibility.  Many positive elements are incorporated that derive / have been learned from our residential design work.

We have extensive experience in Corporate Contract design, including the recent reinvention of a raw Soho loft for INVNT, a leading global brand and communications agency. Other notable projects include an interactive traveling exhibition sponsored by M&M Mars for the promotion of the U.S. Olympics; and projects for Verizon and Credit Suisse.

More featured project images to come. This section is in development.

“Galo and I met to discuss the project and I immediately knew we’d get
along. He seemed to understand my vision, and already the wheels were
turning.”
